Plateau governor escapes death

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State over the weekend escaped death, as his convoy was involved in a fatal accident at Mikang-Shendam Road, in Mikang Local Government Area of the state. However, two security aides of the governor were not lucky as they died in the accident. Lalong had gone to the Southern senatorial zone of the state to commission some of the projects executed by his government during his first year in office. An eye witness in the convoy revealed that the two security aides, identified as policemen, were hanging on a Hilux Van belonging to the state’s private security outfit, ‘Operation Rainbow’, when the driver of the van veered into a corner and flung the unsuspecting victims off the van. The victims were said to have landed on their heads, resulting in their death. While one of them died on the spot, the second victim died on his way to the hospital. Confirming the accident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abuh Emmanuel said, however, he was yet to receive details on the incident from the Mikang Divisional Police Officer. He said, “As I speak to you now, I have not got detailed information about the incident. I am waiting now. Anytime I get elaborate information, I will let you know.” The incident came less than a week after eight journalists on the convoy of former Governor Joshua Dariye died along the same Shendam road.
